A 23-year-old unemployed man, identified as Owen L., has confessed to the murder of an 11-year-old girl in Epinay-sur-Orge, Essonne, on February 8. The victim, Louise Lasalle, was found dead just hours after her parents reported her missing. The suspect, who had been playing Fortnite prior to the incident, admitted to killing the girl following an argument with another player.
According to French police, Owen L. became enraged after the online dispute and decided to go outside to cool off. His intention was to rob or extort someone, and during this time, he came across Louise, whom he did not know. Spotting her mobile phone hanging around her neck, he followed her and lured her into the woods by claiming he had lost something. Once in the secluded area, he threatened her with a knife, intending to steal money. When Louise screamed, he panicked and, in the ensuing struggle, pushed her to the ground and fatally stabbed her.
Investigators found Louise's phone beside her body, and there were no signs of sexual assault. DNA from the suspect was found on her hands, but further investigation revealed no other immediate connections to other crimes. Reports also indicate that Owen L. had earlier attempted to lure another girl into the woods, but she had refused.
Following the crime, Owen L. confessed to his girlfriend that he had committed a serious offense. He later disposed of the murder weapon, bleached his clothes, and discarded them. His 24-year-old girlfriend has since been charged with failing to report a crime.
